The son of George H. and Flora Robertson Brimhall, Dean was born on December 11, 1886, in Provo, Utah. George H. Brimhall served as president of Brigham Young University from 1903-1921. George Washington Brimhall was born on November 14, 1814, near Canada Creek, New York. In 1837 the Brimhalls moved to Illinois, where George joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1842.
